Justice and Harmony: the Solution to Contemporary Crises

Abstract: Justice and harmony are the basic quality and noble choice of the people, a moral value that guide people to pursue truth, goodness and beauty in the practical activities. At present, human beings are confronted with the conflict with society and the conflict between themselves, causing the social and cultural crisis and moral crisis. The origin of social conflicts and crises is related to human nature—selfishness. The Confucian culture believes that only people can have moral reason, which harmonizes and rationalizes people's existence. What makes people precious is that they aspire for harmony and pursue the good. Harmony creates strong force, strong force gets people to prevail over the things, thus people's moral and social attributes will grow, and the physical and non-human attributes will dissipate; the inclination to goodness is the important foundation for establishing the social mutual benefit system and realizing the procedural justice. Hence, the Chinese traditional culture points out the direction on how to resolve the contemporary social conflict and crisis, which is to cultivate the morals, promote good faith, stress harmony, and pursue social justice.
